• Oscar Valdez (20-0, 18 KOs), who won a vacant featherweight title against Matias Rueda in an explosive second-round knockout on July 23 on the Terence Crawford-Viktor Postol undercard, was born in Mexico but grew up in Tucson, Arizona. He will return to his childhood home to attend the card that his promoter, Top Rank, is putting on Saturday night (UniMas, 11 ET/PT) at Casino Del Sol. It is headlined by former lightweight titleholder Juan Diaz against Cesar Vazquez, but Valdez will be recognized during the show.

“I have been dreaming of this day since I was 8 years old,” Valdez said. “I have always wanted to return to Tucson as a world champion. Boxing is my passion. Dreams do come true.”
