This Saturday night in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mariana ‘Barby’ Juárez grimly defends her WBC bantamweight coronet, minus a kind heart, against Japan’s Terumi Nuki.
Concerning her first defence of this title, Barby confirms she’s inspired, motivated and itching to fight, in order to conserve her championship, in a city with so much boxing tradition, stressing: “Terumi is a tough and hard rival. Over confidence or complacency isn’t an option. I am certainly, but also with certainty, facing a strong woman and as such, I’ve prepared as never before!”
Teruki Nuki, assisted by coach Ken Nishide retorted: “I am very happy for this absolutely great opportunity, I will give it my supreme effort. My record speaks for itself, and I’m going for the knockout. She is expecting a difficult night because I come to defeat her and will take the WBC belt to Japan.”
This Friday both fighters passed the official weigh-in:
Juarez weighed 117.3, while Nuki alighted on the scale at 116.8 pounds.
