Ohara Davies open to knocking out Tyrone McKenna

Ohara Davies revealed he would take what he believes is a step back and knock out Tyrone McKenna if new promoter Frank Warren asked him to.

The Belfast light welter has been calling out the controversial English fighter for some time now and ‘Ohara Davies’ passed his lips once again following his win over Anthony Upton on the Frampton-Donaire undercard in Belfast last weekend.

The panto villain’s move from Matchroom to Queensberry, especially considering Warren has a big Belfast plans, seems to make Davies a more attainable target for rangey southpaw McKenna [16(6)-0-1].

‘Two Tanks’ has his sights set on former Stephen Ormond foe Terry Flanagan, particularly if the Manchester fighter can become a two-weight world champ by claiming the WBO light welterweight title versus Maurice Hooker on June 9th.

However, the 26-year-old, who returns to the ring on the Lee Selby v Josh Warrington undercard against Frenchman Christopher Sebire over ten rounds at Elland Road on May 19th, said he is open to fighting McKenna or Jack Catterall.

“I haven’t engaged with either of them. If Frank wants to make it happen, I don’t mind knocking them out but they’re looking up at me and I’m looking up at title-holders,” Davies [16(13)-1(1)] explained.

“Terry Flanagan v Maurice Hooker is a fight I’ll be keeping an eye on. I want to fight for world titles. Josh Leather has the [IBF] European belt too and he’s another opponent I’m looking at.”

Having been pulled from a Matchroom bill earlier this year, the Selby-Warrington undercard will be the controversial fighter’s first date of 2018.

“I’m itching to get back in the ring and do what I do best,” said Davies. “My last fight seems a long time ago and I’m excited to start entertaining the fans again. Selby v Warrington is a huge event and I’m grateful to my team for getting me on there.”

“There’s some massive fights out there for me in the super lightweight division. I’m fully focused on becoming a World Champion and that opportunity could come sooner than expected if Terry Flanagan beats Maurice Hooker for the WBO belt in Manchester on June 9th.”
