Ohara Davies rejoices in Darragh Foley getting his “ass whooped”

The outspoken light welterweight was ringside as sparring partner Akeem Ennis Brown outpointed ‘Super’ Foley [15(8)-3(0)-1] at the York Hall on Friday night.

Before the bout he tried to goad Foley as he took the ring – producing a Nigel Winterburn moment when the Boston trained fighter threw a Paulo DiCanio shape his way, and vamped up the criticism post the points defeat.

The 26-year-old, whose last appearance was a points defeat to Jack Catterall, seemed to take real joy in the world ranked fighter’s third career defeat.

The smack talk would suggest ‘Two Tanks’ is interested in trading leather with Foley as both now look to rebuild, but Davies claims he only broke his new humble approach to slate the Blanch native due to some jibes sent his way on social media.

“Listen, Darragh Foley just got his ass whooped,” Davies seemed delighted to say when speaking to IFL TV.

One of a number of fighters to take aim at Foley following the defeat alongside Belfast’s Anto Upton [17(6)-2(0)], Davies described how “he got the life beaten out of him and I am very glad because he has been talking shit about me on social media for the past few months.”

“I have been keeping quiet, I’ve been keeping low, I haven’t really been out there – these days, but this guy has been talking shit about me for months over social media.”

“I ain’t got to say much [about Brown’s performance] what he did in the ring speaks for itself. This guy is next up at 10 stone. Darragh Foley came in as champion and he got his ass beat, his ass whooped,” he added before stressing, unconvincingly, that he has no interest in fighting Foley.

“Nah he is bum, he won’t last a round with me. I am not really thinking about what’s next or who is next or when I am fighting.”

“The thing people need to understand is I don’t need to fight right now, I don’t need to fight for another year, another two years, I’ll fight when I want to fight not because I need to.”
