Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa looks like it’ll have a solid co-feature, as El Nuevo Herald announced today that Cuba’s Yunieski Gonzalez has signed a contract to face top light heavyweight prospect Oleksandr Gvozdyk on the April 8th HBO card.

Gonzalez (18-2, 14 KO) entered the boxing public’s eye when he was robbed against Jean Pascal in July of 2015. This set up a fight with prospect Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, who outslugged the durable Cuban to a majority decision win on the undercard of Gabriel Rosado vs. Joshua Clottey. Gonzalez spent 2016 in get-well fights, thrashing Jackson Junior and Maxwell Amponsah in a combined 4:37.

Gvozdyk (12-0, 10 KO) won bronze in London as part of the brutal Ukrainian squad that featured Oleksandr Usyk and the aforementioned Lomachenko. He’s beaten solid opposition as a pro, including former title challengers Isaac Chilemba, Tommy Karpency, and Nadjib Mohammedi in his last three.

Gonzalez is tough as nails and hits plenty hard. Considering Gvozdyk’s scare against Karpency, this could wind up being a damn good scrap.
