The WBA has assigned former Ratings Committee Chairman Oliver Gomez of Panama as the fight supervisor for the coming WBA Super Flyweight World Title Fight between Japanese star fighter 4-fivision world champion Kazuto Ioka and hard-hitting Venezuela challenger Josber Pérez.
The ‘Ioka vs Pérez’ clash is set to unfold on new year’s eve at the 4,000-seat Ota-City Gym in Tokyo, Japan, live on ABEMA TV, the last world title fight for 2023.
The trusted Oliver Gomez was also the WBA supervisor for the recent exciting victory of the “Monster” Naoya Inoue over Marlon Tapales for the UNDISPUTED Super Bantamweight title, last Tuesday at the Ariake Arena, also in Tokyo.
“It is an honor to represent the WBA during these exciting fights in Japan, the Land that has given and keeps on giving so much to the sport of boxing,” feels Gomez, a graduate from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, as well as a successful businessman in his native Panama.
Oliver is also an advisor to WBA President Gilberto Mendoza.
Today, Gomez took part in the press conference for ‘Ioka vs Pérez,’ the media event in which the Japanese star and his Venezuela challenger met for the very first time.
The popular 34-year-old Kazuto Ioka 井岡一翔 has been in champion of the world in four weight-classes from Minimumweight to Super Flyweight, clashing for years against the very best in the world, perceived, together with Naoya Inoue, as the two most popular boxers out of Japan.
Pérez, meanwhile, will challenge for a world title for a second time in his pro boxing career. Four years ago, the 28-year-old Venezuelan from Los Teques fought WBA Flyweight champion Artem Dalakian, losing by points.
“Avalancha,” as he is nicknamed, wants this time to score the win over Ioka, to become a champion of the world. Will he achieve that?
Or will the far-more-accomplished, know, and revered by fans Kazuto Ioka easily defeat him with skills and talent, as widely expected?
‘Ioka vs Perez’ on New Year’s Eve in Tokyo, Japan is promoted Yusuke Ninomiya of Shisei Promotions. Matchmaker Takuya Kiya.
May the Best Man Win!
