Props for sticking to a theme.
The December 9th showdown between amateur legends Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux won’t be the only fight of the night to feature Olympic veterans. Top Rank announced via press release that Irish star Michael Conlan and Rio silver medalist Shakur Stevenson will appear in separate bouts on the televised undercard, while fellow Rio veteran Mikaela Mayer anchors the streamed portion.
Conlan (4-0, 4 KO) will be making his fifth appearance in nine months, having stopped all prior comers in three rounds or fewer. He’ll fight unheralded Argentinian Luis Fernando Molina (7-3-1, 2 KO), who is at least ranked incrementally higher than Conlan on BoxRec.
Stevenson (3-0, 1 KO) will be looking to rebound from a dominant but somewhat underwhelming performance on the Crawford-Indongo undercard when he fights Oscar Mendoza (4-2, 2 KO). At 20, he’s got more time to develop than Conlan does, so hopefully they hold off on that “grudge match” for a while.
The final slot on the televised card features Puerto Rican prospect Christopher Diaz (21-0, 13 KO) against Austin, Texas’ Casey Ramos (24-1, 6 KO).
The ESPN app will host Mayer (2-0, 2 KO) against Nyda Feliciano (9-8-3, 0 KO) and Bryant Jennings (20-2, 11 KO) against Don Haynesworth (13-1-1, 11 KO), among others.
