
Mixed martial arts heroes from around joined together on Tuesday to pay respects to Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto.
The Japanese icon lost his life at the age of 41 after a battle with cancer.
The Tokyo native was a pioneer of the sport’s lighter weight classes – especially in his homeland where he was a mainstream star – paving the way for many of the heroes of ONE championship.
Above all, despite his popularity, he still took risks and competed against – and defeated – athletes who were two or three divisions above his natural weight.
His exciting style and warrior spirit won him a legion of fans around the world, and let to an outpouring of tributes on social media, including from ONE Championship.
