ONN TO SHOWCASE AN ENTERTAINING FIGHT ON JULY 9 IN MALAYSIA

MALAYSIAN boxer Stephen Onn promised to showcase an entertaining fight on July 9 in the first WBC Boxing Malaysia event at the Mid Valley Exhibition Cetre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“I’m excited for my upcoming fight. I wanna showcase an entertaining fight. That’s what the people want anyway – an entertaining fight. So the boxing fans can expect that when they see me fight,” said the 28-year old Onn, whose real name is Stepen Onn Jenggieng.
Onn is fighting Mohd Hanafi also of Malaysia in a cruiserweight bout.
“I’ve got nothing to say about my opponent. I know that he was representing the national team if I’m not mistaken, it’s honor to share the same ring with him,” said Onn, a former Golden Gloves heavyweight champion and Best Boxer.
But Onn failed to make it to the Malaysian national team for the Southeast Asian Games. So he decided to turn pro in Singapore and now has a pro record of two wins with one by way of knockout and also one loss.
Onn and the rest of the Malaysian boxers are now very happy with the creation of WBC Boxing Malaysia which is headed by its president Raymond Chew.
“It’s about time that the pro boxing is back in Malaysia. Many unearth talent I see here. Since they have no stage to perform, they end up doing something else like MMA or Muay Thai,” said Onn.
“Before this, the only platform for them to perform is in the state/ national boxing team, but some are unfortunate and end up stop pursuing their passion,” said Onn.
“I am really happy that the boxing scene is back in Malaysia. The boxing gym in Malaysia will have stronger purpose to survive, since their members will have purpose to train knowing that there is a stage for them to perform in their homeland. “
“Hopefully in the future, more gyms will invest in this sport like sending their boxer outside of Malaysia, or inviting foreign coaches to improve the quality of the boxers in Malaysia. “
“Many possibilities can happen from here onward. And I am excited to be a part of it. I hope someday the boxing scene here grow like Muay Thai in Thailand, or boxing in Philippines and having Malaysia its own boxing world champion someday.”
The Onn-Hanafi fight is one of the supporting bouts of the championship fight for the vacant WBC Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation Silver featherweight title between Carlo “The Ferocious” Magali of the Philippines and the undefeated Sandeep Balhara of India.
The historic event is promoted by the Malaysian Boxing Association (MBA) Boxing Management and supported by Boxranx, Coca-Cola, Isuzu, Muay Thai MMA, Monster, MalayMail, Ticket Pro, Johnson and Edamamedia.
