Orlando Salido elected to office in Mexico

Four-time world champion in two different divisions Orlando “Siri” Salido has been elected as State Deputy in Sonora, Mexico for the 16 district in his hometown of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora. The boxing Warrior was part of the party of Mexico’s President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Salido who was selected by the local authorities to run because of his popularity and roots in one of the poorest district of State was very happy with his victory and excited to serve his fellow citizens.

“It’s time to get together and work for the people who really need our help. They need better education, access to good health services and employment alternatives. I was fortunate to have boxing In my life and was able to take that opportunity to better myself and now I want to give back to the community that has supported me thru-out my career,” said Salido.

Salido a three-time world champion at 126 pounds and a world champion at 130 pounds, has been part of at least four fights of the year candidates and his epic battle with Francisco “Bandido” Vargas in June of 2016 was selected as the best fight of the year. Salido also has wins over former world champion Juan Manuel Lopez (twice), and current world champion Vasyl Lomachenko and has fought the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, Yuriorkis Gamboa and Mikey Garcia.

His boxing career is on hold for now, but Salido would like to emulate the fighting Senator of the Philippines Manny Pacquiao and return to the ring as an elected official.
