Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Samuel Vargas are already in California for their World Boxing Association (WBA) Gold Welterweight fight on Friday. They will both step onto the scale on Thursday for the final step before their Friday night bout at Indio’s Fantasy Springs.
Ortiz and Vargas have to stop the scale at 147 pounds to be eligible to fight for the title. This will be the second defense of the US-born Gold champion, who will face the Colombian challenger that has a lot to win and is very motivated for the fight.
Ortiz has not fought since last year due to the pandemic pause but is one of the most important prospects in boxing and wants a world title opportunity soon. He has a good punch, good mobility, and great strength, which have opened his way among the welterweights.
Ortiz’s record is 15 wins, no losses, and 15 KOs. Vargas comes with a record of 31 wins, 5 losses, 2 draws, and 14 KOs.
