Pacquiao assures fans he’ll be fighting Matthysse on July 15

MP promotions has reportedly dropped the ball on a number of logistics, endangering the planned event.

Over recent weeks there’s been a number of comments in boxing circles indicating that Manny Pacquiao’s planned July 15 fight with Lucas Matthysse was in danger of falling apart. Last week it was reported that Pacquiao’s MP Promotions company, which is handling the fight, had missed several key deadlines to finance the bout, But despite all the uncertainty Pacquiao says the fight will indeed happen.

“As far as I am concerned, everything is fine,” Pacquiao stated. “Lucas Matthysse and I are getting ready to give the fans their money’s worth and July 15 will be huge for boxing in Malaysia.”

Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who has long served as Pacquiao’s promoter, is now only involved in the event’s American television distribution, but that has yet to be sorted out (although it’ll most certainly air on either ESPN or ESPN+). Arum has also stated that he’d like to inquire about Matthysse possibly fighting Terence Crawford if the Pacquiao fight falls through.

With only about 3 weeks until the event is supposed to take place there’s still an uncomfortable level ambiguity surrounding the match and we’ll just have to wait and see if it all gets pulled together in time to come off as planned. But as of now Pacquiao continues to train as if he doesn’t have a worry in the world.
