With Pacquiao preparing to take on Lucas Matthysse in a welterweight fight this summer, the Filipino boxer was also asked about all the talk surrounding a potential fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and himself. Pacquaio then confirmed to WBN that it’s a fight he’s looking at…
“Yes, of course, we are interest in that fight,” Pacquiao exclusively told World Boxing News.
“Vasyl Lomachenko just beat Jorge Linares and he has the lightweight belt now, which means we can fight for a title.”
Of course Pacquaio fighting for Loma’s newly acquired belt would require Pacquiao to do something that he hasn’t done in 10 years — and that’s make the 135lb weight limit. At nearly 40 years of age that might not be the simplest task for him, although Pacquiao says he believes he could do so, even if not easily.
“I could take a fight with Lomachenko at 135, but that would be pushing me to my limits.”
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has recently been expressing his interest in making a Pacquiao-Lomachenko fight for the end of the year, but there are certainly a number of considerations to be had.
Would any of you like to see Pac-Loma? And if so, what weight would the fight be best suited for?
