SEN. Emmanuel “Pacman’ Pacquiao is proud of his fellow countryman and reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) world super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas, who recently successfully retained his title via a 6th round technical knockout win against Irish challenger Jamie “The Mexican” Conlan.
“So proud of you Jerwin Ancajas,” said Pacquiao in his Facebook account.
Pacquiao, an 8-division world boxing champion himself, also advised Ancajas to “keep working hard and stay focused.”
“You have brought honor to our country,” said Pacquiao, whose MP Promotions has also been helping Ancajas since he started training at the MP Davao Gym in Davao City a few years ago.
However, Ancajas and his manager-trainer Joven Jimenez later transferred their camp to Cavite during their preparation against then-IBF world champion McJoe Arroyo of Puerto Rico last year.
Ancajas downed once Arroyo in Round 8 to score a convincing unanimous decision last Sept. 3, 2016 at the Naval Gym in Taguig City.
The 25-year old Ancajas made his first successful title-defense by stopping Mexican Jose Alfredo Rodriguez in the7th round last January 29 at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macao, China.
Despite transferring his camp in Cavite, Ancajas is still being supported by Pacquiao.
Ancajas made his second title defense in the main supporting card of the Manny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn championship fight held July 2 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
Ancajas, a native of Panabo City, stopped Japanese challenger Teiru Kinoshita via a 7th round technical knockout..
Ancajas now wants to pay his courtesy call to President Rodrigo Dutete at the Malacanyang. He will be accompanied by Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Commissioner Mar Masanguid, who is also the president of the Solid Duterte Supporters Group (SDSG) D’ Original Nationwide. (LITO DELOS REYES)
