UFC strawweihght star Paige VanZant revealed that she might be open to a catchweight bout with Ronda Rouysey at 125lbs.
UFC strawweight sweetheart Paige VanZant will have her hands full this Saturday night when she headlines the UFC Sacramento card against Jackson-Wink rising star Michelle Waterson, but that hasn’t stopped her from entertaining ideas about other fighting opportunities. In a recent interview with TMZ (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie), Paige mentioned a surprising name that she’d be open to catchweight bout with—Ronda Rousey.
“If she wants to meet at 125, (I’d fight her),” VanZant said. “I’d have to go up (from strawweight). I would consider going up to 125. It’s not that big of a weight gain for me. We’ll see if we meet at 125.”
VanZant went on to predict the outcome of Rousey’s upcoming title fight against current women’s bantamweight belt holder Amanda Nunes.
“I don’t believe in ring rust – I believe it’s 100 percent mental,” VanZant said. “So if she’s 100 percent mentally focused on that night, then she’s going to win it. I would say Ronda by armbar.”
If you take a trip though your mind palace, you will recall that VanZant confirmed a story Miesh Tate told on The Joe Rogan Experience where Rousey allegedly verbally accosted Paige regarding a congratulatory greeting she gave to Holly Holm following their title fight last year. Perhaps Ronda has been on her mind more than we know.
