UFC strawweight prospect Paige VanZant announced on ESPN’s SportsCenter that she’ll be fighting Bec Rawlings at UFC on FOX 21 on August 27th.
After finishing as a runner-up on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, Paige VanZant is ready to make her UFC return. In an interview with ESPN’s SportsCenter, VanZant confirmed that she’s set to fight “Rowdy” Bec Rawlings on August 27th, at UFC on FOX 21 in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
VanZant (6-2) headlined a December UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas against Rose Namajunas, who dominated her and ultimately forced a 5th round rear-naked choke stoppage. It was the first loss of the 22-year-old’s UFC career after starting off 3-0 inside the Octagon, with wins over Alex Chambers, Kailin Curran, and Felice Herrig. While Rawlings is unranked, PVZ is currently at #10 in the UFC’s strawweight top 15.
Rawlings (7-4) has won two in a row, submitting Lisa Ellis in the 1st round in May 2015, then getting a unanimous decision over Seo Hee Ham back in March. Both of those fights were in her home country of Australia. Rawlings had competed on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter — VanZant was too young to compete on the show — losing her preliminary round matchup vs. Tecia Torres. She made her official debut on the TUF 20 Finale, but lost by unanimous decision to Heather Jo Clark.
The only other fights confirmed for UFC on FOX 21 are Anthony Pettis vs. Charles Oliveira, plus Alessio Di Chirico vs. Garreth McLellan.
