PARRA BLASTS BENAVIDES

By WBCboxing.com

Gilberto “Yaqui” Parra Medina was crowned WBC Silver Light Flyweight champion with a TKO over Nicaraguan Leyman Benavides in one minute and forty seven seconds of the fourth round, at the CUM of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora.

The local idol “Yaqui” Parra (26-3-0, 21 ko’s) threw lightning multiple combinations, which  hurt, stunned and shocked Benavidez (14-6-1, 2 ko’s) who visited the canvas in the second round due to a walloping left hook to the liver.

Leyman had come to fight and he tried his utmost to lay down the law.  He  launched a sustained attack to body and head to win round one.  Gilberto, who was apparently biding his time,  poured on the pressure in the second for the knockdown, but then puzzlingly eased off, which briefly allowed Leyman breathing space.  A barrage driving Leyman into the ropes almost finished the fight, but the sweet salving sound of the bell saved him.

Just before round three started, Leyman  took a deep, rasping, staccato breath. He was obviously still hurt.  But the slow, quick, quick slow uneven tempo allowed him to survive for just a little while longer, although he was being increasingly tagged by uppercuts.

Gilberto decided to end it in the fourth,  with a crunching right to the ribcage, followed by a torrent of combinations to the head.  It was curtains, and the Referee moved in to save the bowed and befuddled Nicaraguan, who was being pounded from pillar to post.
