Patrick Cummins declares he’s out of UFC 217 with ‘mutant staph infection’

Corey Anderson needs a new opponent for UFC 217.

Patrick Cummins announced on his social media Tuesday that he was forced out of a light heavyweight clash with Anderson on the Nov. 4 card at Madison Square Garden due to a staph infection on his right foot.

Cummins (10-4) was looking for his third straight victory after defeating Gian Villante and Jan Blachowicz earlier this year. “Durkin” was also forced out of a bout with Villante on Dec. 2016 due to a staph infection.

Anderson (9-3), winner of the 19th season of The Ultimate Fighter, last fought in March 2017, losing a main event bout with Jimi Manuwa.

UFC 217 will feature three title fights on Nov. 4. Headlined by middleweight champion Michael Bisping versus former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre, the pay-per-view card also includes bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt and strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczykagainst T.J. Dillashaw and Rose Namajunas, respectively.
