PBC on ESPN results: Barrios shuts down Boschiero in main event

Premier Boxing Champions

Mario Barrios didn’t thrill, but he got the win on last night’s PBC on ESPN card.

There was hope that Mario Barrios would showcase something more than he did on Saturday night, but he picked up a convincing and clear win in the PBC on ESPN main event, at any rate, shutting out Italy’s Devis Boschiero over 12 rounds.

Scores were 120-107 across the board for Barrios, who improves to 16-0 (8 KO) with the win, which was also an IBF eliminator at 130 pounds. Boschiero (39-5-1, 21 KO) was dropped in the 12th round.

Barrios wasn’t able to get much good work done in this fight, though, which is in part because Boschiero displayed no willingness to engage, despite engaging being his only chance at overcoming big height and reach disadvantages. And as little clean work as Barrios was able to get in, Boschiero did substantially less, amounting to a very boring fight, which the crowd in Trenton rightfully booed routinely and with vigor.

In the co-feature, Chicago area junior welterweight prospect Eddie “The Barber” Ramirez stayed undefeated, moving to 14-0 (9 KO) with a 10-round unanimous decision win over Jessie Roman (20-3, 9 KO). Scores were 98-92, 99-91, and 99-91. BLH had it 100-90 for Ramirez.

Ramirez, 24, looked solid here, but there is certainly still work to be done if he’s going to be a contender in the future. Roman took the fight on just 10 days’ notice and hadn’t fought in 315 days, but he hung tough throughout, and landed the occasional counter shot when Ramirez’s aggression would cause a defensive lapse. But for the most part, Ramirez controlled the tempo and the pace of the fight, jabbing well, mixing in some body work, and was almost always the guy going forward.
