PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – Carlo Cesar Penalosa managed to keep his composure against a never-say-die Salatiel Amit to escape with a split decision and captured the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia Boxing Council ….last Nov. 10 at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum.
Two judges scored in favor of Penalosa while the other one saw it for Amit.
Ferdie Estrella, president of the Manila boxing referees and judges, and Brembot Dulalas, president of the Mindanao Professional Ring Officials Association (MinPROA), both scored it 96-94 for Penalosa, while Cebu-based judge Noel Flores had it 96-94 for Amit.

Amit took the opening round but Penalosa bounced back in the next two rounds. Amit won the 4th round but Penalosa dominated the rounds 5 to 8. Amit kept on chasing Penalosa in the last two cantos but was not enough.
“Kahit nanalo ako sa palagay ko kailangan ko pa ring mag ensayo upang ma improve ako,” said Penalosa after he was awarded a golden belt by WBC Asia Boxing Council Executive Secretary Col. Damrong Simakajornboon from Thailand.
Penalosa’s uncle and trainer Jonathan said that his nephew still needs to train more to improve his skills.
“Kulang pa rin siya pero mas mabuti at nalaman agad natin,” said the older Penalosa.
“It was a very close fight,” said another uncle Gerry Penalosa of Gerrypens Boxing Promotion, who co-promoted the fight in connection with the 55th OPBF Annual Convention.
Also present during the awarding were Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham Kahlil Mitra and Commissioners Eduard Trinidad and Mar Masanguid.
