CARLO Caesar Penalosa of Cebu stopped Vincent “Lizard” Bautista of Tarlac by a 3rd round technical knockout to capture the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight title last Friday at the Makati Square Boxing Arena in Makati City.
Penalosa first downed Bautista early in the second round before decking him twice again in the third canto. Penalosa improved his record to nine wins with three knockouts against only one loss while Bautista suffered his 9th defeat against five wins and four draws.
Penalosa, a nephew of former two-division world champion Gerry Penalosa, was awarded a golden belt by Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham Kahlil “Baham” Mitra.
In the main supporting event, Philippine flyweight female champion Carleans “Chay” Rivas scored a majority decision win over Floryvic Montero in their six-rounder bout.
Rivas landed more telling blows to improve her record to 6-4-3 while Montero dropped to 3-3-0.
In the undercard, Edsil Jungco used his experience in giving the first loss to Aurelio Angel by UD in the six rounder.
