FILIPINO fighter Rey “Technician” Perez and his American opponent Lamonth Roach Jr. both made their weights today for their title fight tomorrow (Dec. 1 in Manila) at the Theatre of the MGM National Harbor in Washington, DC.
Perez tipped the scales at 131 lbs. while Roach only submitted 130.6 lbs. for their 10-rounder bout promoted by Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar De La Hoya.
“My condition is OK,” said Perez, who later ate “nilagang baka” [beef stew] and rice cooked by his Filipino trainer Jules Tagalog.
Perez took a rest after the weigh-in but later ate fried chicken and fruits.
“We also brought our own rice cooker here,” said Perez’ manager Rey “Cacoi” Rodis II of RED Boxing International.
“Looks like Rey will knockout him if he [Roach] will just mix,” said Rodis.
Team Perez is also composed of Rodis’ very supportive wife Anyl and Mexican trainer Francisco Calderon.
“I have watched his [Roach] fights in Youtube and I really think Roach will meet his match tomorrow,” said Rodis.
The undefeated Roach (15W-0, 6 KOs) previously scored a first round knockout against Luis Hinojosa last October 21 at the Turning Stove Resort and Casino in Verona.
Roach earlier won a unanimous decision against Jesus Valdez to capture the WBC Youth Silver super featherweight title last June 30 at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio.
Perez [21W-8L-0D, 6 KOs), on the other hand, stopped Noel Adelmita in Round 2 last June 4 at the Zamboanga del Norte Cultural Center in Dipolog City.
“Success is not easy as people see. But I’m really leaning this will be an upset by Perez,” said Rodis.
