Petchdam Petchyindee Academy cemented his status as one of the most exciting knockout artists in ONE Super Series with another spectacular stoppage on Friday, 22 February.
The Thai superstar knocked out Japan’s Masahide “Crazy Rabbit” Kudo with a crushing straight left hand after 35 seconds of round two in their flyweight kickboxing encounter at ONE: CALL TO GREATNESS from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Kudo worked well against the 20-year-old Thai’s renowned left high kick in the first stanza.
He kept his right hand glued tightly to his head and blocked the incoming power shots before replying with counter-punches to the head and body.
Undeterred, Petchdam steadily
accumulated damage by continuing to dig his shin into the legs and body
of his rival. “Crazy Rabbit” fired back with solid jabs and right hooks
to the body, but the WBC Muay Thai World Champion threatened with his
fierce left hand.
As the round wore on, there was more close-quarters action in the clinch, where Petchdam used his Muay Thai background to control his rival and land knees to the body.
The Petchyindee Academy representative
started the second round with even more intent and went straight on the
offensive. He charged forward, landed some hard knees in the clinch, and
backed his opponent to the ropes.
With Kudo backed into the corner, Petchdam unleashed a solid left kick to the body, and then aimed a second kick towards the head.
He followed it up by throwing a one-two with pinpoint accuracy. It was the thudding straight left punch that landed on the jaw of the Japanese combatant and sent him crashing to the canvas.
Kudo tried his best to return to his feet, but it was waved off by referee Olivier Coste when it was clear he could not continue.
Petchdam, who is flawless in ONE Super Series, secured his third straight knockout victory and improved his overall record to 93-15-7.
The Bangkok native could have very well entered the World Title mix with that impressive showing.
