Petecio fights Arias for quarter-finals

DAVAO CITY (July 27) – Nesty “Nesh” Petecio of Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur will fight Yeni Arias of Colombia at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the XXXII Olympic quarter-final round of women’s featherweight division at the Kokugikan Arena in Japan.

The 30-year-old Arias (13W-8L) is a bronze medalist in the 2019 Pan American Games. Petecio, however, is confident she will hurdle the Colombian.

Petecio (62W-19L, 1KO) earlier beat the top seed and world no. 1 in Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-Ting via a 3-2 split decision.

In her first bout, the 29-year-old Petecio defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Marcelat Sakobi Matshu.

Meanwhile, Eumir Felix Marcial makes his first fight against Younes Nemouchi of Algeria in the 69-76kg division at 10:48 a.m. on Thursday, while Irish Magno takes on Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong in the 48-51kg. at 12:24 p.m.

Carlo Paalam will fight Algeria’s Mohamed Flissi on Saturday at 10:48 a.m.
