It’s been common knowledge for a while but Peter Fury recently confirmed that he and nephew Tyson Fury will no longer be training together.
The partnership was productive to say the least, with Tyson dethroning long-term Heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015.
Speaking to BoxNation, Peter said:
“He’s doing his own thing, so best of luck to him.”
“I’m just going to concentrate with young fighters – my son, and one or two others I’ve got around me.”
The “Gypsy King” has since recruited trainer Ben Davison, as he looks to complete a successful comeback.
Peter added:
”As far as I’m concerned, he’s my nephew, I got him to win the world title… happiest times of our life. Whatever he does in the future I wish him all the best,” said the Manchester-based cornerman.
”For me, there will never be a moment like Dusseldorf. I’m just working towards the same experience again [with Hughie].
Hughie failed in his first world title challenge against WBO world champion Joseph Parker.
The New Zealander retained his crown last September, but the fight went to the scorecards after 12 close rounds.
Fury is confident his son Hughie will learn from the experience, stating that:
“I think it’s a blessing in disguise. In my opinion he did win the fight with cleaner punches.
“Hughie can do a lot more. It’s good in that respect that he’s come away without the decision because now he’s tested it, he knows what it’s like. He’s ready for world level, but it’s whoever we can get. People are avoiding him at the moment, it’s very difficult to get him fights.
“He’s a fabulous talent. He’ll come back a lot stronger from it. He knows the things that he should’ve done.”
