PFL 5 weigh-in video, results: Efrain Escudero misses again, removed from playoff contention

MMAfighting.com

Efrain Escudero’s season is over.

The veteran lightweight failed to make the 155-pound weight limit for his matchup with Islam Mamedov at PFL 5 on Thursday at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, N.Y. Escudero weighed in at 163.2 pounds.

It is the second time this season that Escudero failed to make weight. He came in at 162 pounds for his PFL 2 matchup with Jason High in June, a bout that he went on to win via a controversial guillotine choke stoppage when the referee waved off the bout despite there not being a clear signal of submission from High.

Regardless of that outcome, Escudero has now been ruled ineligible to compete in the 2018 PFL postseason and disqualified from Thursday’s bout. Mamedov will receive an automatic three points and receive both his show and win money, according to a release from the league.

All other fighters weighed in without issue.

In the main event, High and short-notice opponent Natan Schulte successfully made the lightweight limit of 155 pounds (with one-pound allowance). PFL 5 will feature fighters in the lightweight and light heavyweight divisions.
