Jessica McCaskill got up from the canvass and fought back to become the brand-new WBC female lightweight champion.
“During my childhood we came to a point where we understood that we should do whatever it took to survive. We ended up living in the back of a church, after we were kicked out of our house, as we were penniless.
“Your survival instincts kick in at these moments. You try your utmost to improve. I’m a bit silly, as I try to make people smile and I just try to help. That is part of me. My Mom was very strong. She did everything she could to get us out of that situation. ”
On Saturday night, the comeback kid from Chicago entered the ring to challenge the formidable world champion, Erica Farías. The determination was etched on her face. She well knew just what was at stake.
Jessica fought bravely. She was utterly determined to do everything within her capabilities and her power to win the crown, despite the fact that she had a real titan of female boxing superstar fighting her…and she triumphed.
After 10 rounds, Jessica became the new World Boxing Council super lightweight champion, earning her the applause and the respect of the fans, who witnessed first hand, an all out give and take ring war!
The World Boxing Council congratulates Jessica for being an example for youth and for becoming the new WBC super lightweight world champion. Likewise, we recognize and admire the sportsmanship of Erica Farias, who is and always will be a magnificent representative of the WBC, by respectfully accepting and sportingly applauding the victory of her rival.
