Phil Lo Greco may be seen as just a tune-up return opponent for Amir Khan on Saturday, but never let it be said that Lo Greco did less than his best to sell the fight.
Most recently, Lo Greco said he’s coming to spoil Khan’s party, as he put it, and land a big fight with Kell Brook later this year. He also questioned Khan’s desire to fight Brook, despite the big media attention that has received for years now.
“I’m here to spoil the party. I want to beat Khan, come back here, and fight Kell Brook. … Khan is a salesman. He looked for every way out of fighting Brook. Then he fought Canelo and said: ‘at least I fought the middleweight champion’. Brook had a belt, back in the day. Eddie Hearn offered you all kinds of money and you declined. He doesn’t want to fight Kell Brook. He’s looking for a way out. If he really wanted to fight Brook, why would he want to get down to 147 (to fight me) when Brook is at 154?”
Lo Greco (28-3, 15 KO) has lost in step-up fights in the past, and is expected to lose on Saturday. But Khan (31-4, 19 KO) has his known flaws, and after two years out of the ring, there are questions about what he has left, and his true desire to fight anymore.
