Phil Lo Greco linked to Amir Khan for comeback fight

Will Phil Lo Greco be across the ring from Amir Khan on April 21?

According to Sky Sports, Phil Lo Greco is interested in being the opponent for Amir Khan’s April 21 comeback fight in Liverpool, but wants a “fair deal” to go back down to welterweight for the fight.

There’s not much more info, but this does at least link a name to the Khan fight, even if the name isn’t anything that’s going to excite anyone.

Lo Greco, 33, is best-known as being a friend of Paulie Malignaggi, quite frankly. He’s a decent fighter, but has been exposed at higher levels. The Toronto native was outclassed by Shawn Porter in 2013, and was stopped in three by Errol Spence Jr in 2015.

More recently, he lost a close decision to Joseph Elegele in June 2016. He fought once in 2017, beating journeyman Jesus Gurrola by majority decision over eight rounds. He weighed 163½ pounds for that fight, and actually hasn’t weighed in at 147 or less since 2010, generally fighting at catchweights a couple pounds over the welterweight limit.

Lo Greco has a career record of 28-3 (15 KO). As unexciting as this idea might be, Lo Greco is the sort of opponent Khan (31-4, 19 KO) should probably be looking at as he takes to the ring for the first time in two years, following a brutal KO loss to Canelo Alvarez.
