World Boxing Council female bantamweight champion Catherine Phiri has issued a business like warning to popular Mexican challenger and former two time WBC champion Mariana “Barby”  Juarez.

Catherine who`s again a long way from home, which is Lusaka, Zambia, succinctly and chillingly stressed: “I`m here on business and NOT on vacations, to defend my belt like a beast.”  Catherine has already vowed that this fight certainly won`t go the distance.

Mariana, who`s training, planning and willing herself to deliver a beautiful fight against Catherine,  cheered on by forty thousand fans, in the Zocalo Plaza, right in the heart of Mexico City, says she`s mighty grateful to be fighting on such an import stage, at such a spectacular backdrop setting.  She pointedly comments: “The opportunity to become WBC world champion has finally come again,  and it`s arrived at the best moment. Although I have an excellent opponent in front of me, I am totally ready to become WBC champion.”

In the continuing nail biting run up to this Saturday`s Grand Slam,  Studio A of Televisa Deportes in Mexico City, which will broadcast  the fight extravaganza on  “Saturday Box, ”  hosted an entertaining yet peppery  press conference.  This unique boxing event is presented by Promociones del Pueblo, also thanks to location plus facilities provided by the Government of  Mexico  City, led by Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera.

In his welcome as the host of this presser, Alberto Sosa CEO of Televisa Deportes  said:  “We are on the right lines, because as everyone knows Rey Vargas and ” Churritos Hernandez, were able to conquer world titles abroad,  and hopefully “Barby” will become a world champion here.  This is an historical card, as there is no antecedent of a fight at the Zocalo.”

As part of the card, the Mexico City demolishing puncher,  Eduardo “Rocky” Hernández will contest the WBC youth world title against Argentinian Hugo “Dynamita” Santillan.  And Luis Jesus “Cotto” Vidales stakes his  super lightweight Mexican National championship belt against the spectacular and flamboyant Nery “Pantera” Saguilán.
