Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is back in the surgery room, this time for an ‘unexpected’ operation on his neck.
Weidman posted all the gory details on Instagram, claiming that he will be fully recovered very soon (h/t Jesse Holland of MMA Mania).
“Kind of an unexpected neck surgery yesterday. I’ll explain soon, but I’m all good, and I’ll be healthy soon. Disc replacement surgery yesterday, now I have to drain out of neck,” Weidman posted in an Instagram story.
Weidman, 34, last fought at UFC 230, where he was knocked out by Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza in a Fight of the Night classic at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
The Serra-Longo product is 1-4 in his last five but is still considered a top-five middleweight fighter. Weidman has only lost to the creme de la creme of the division and holds a submission win over Kelvin Gastelum, who will go on to challenge Robert Whittaker for the middleweight title on Feb. 9 at UFC 234.
