MANILA, Philippines (Aug. 12) — Former world champion Rey “Hitman” Loreto will now face a young but very promising Junuel “Artoboy” Lacar in the main event of “The Road to Glory” boxing promotion set August 13 at 2 p.m. at the Makati Square Fitness Arena in Makati City.
Loreto, a former IBO world light flyweight champion was originally scheduled to fight Powell “Destroyer” Balaba, who was not allowed by the Games and Amusement Board since he is still serving six more days of suspension for losing by a technical knockout in his last fight.
Loreto (22W-13L-0D-14 Kos) is now managed by veteran international promoter-manager Naris Singwancha of Thailand.
Lacar, a native of General Santos City has a record of 7W-2L-3D and is now under the Highland Boxing Stable in La Trinidad, Benguet.
Loreto and Lacar had already sparred against each other.
“This will be a great match-up since both fighters are sluggers. Bakbakan pa rin ito,” said promoter Brico Santig of Highland Promotions.
Both fighters vowed to give fans a good show, which will also be attended by newly-appointed GAB Chairman Abraham Khalil “Baham” Mitra.
“Kailangan ko pa rin manalo para ma maintain ko ang ratings ko sa world,” (I still need to win to maintain my world ratings) said the 24-year old Loreto, who is currently ranked WBA No. 1 mini flyweight contender and WBC no. 2 junior flyweight contender.
Lacar, 24 said: “Mas ganado akong labanan siya dahil dati siyang world champion.” (I’m more inspired to fight since he is a former world champion).
Both Loreto and Lacar tipped the scales at 113 lbs. today.
