FILIPINA boxer Kim “Bonecrusher” Actub of Iligan City scored a third round stoppage against South Korean Ye Byeol Lee to capture the vacant Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) World super bantamweight title last June 24 in Suncheon, Korea,
The 24-year old Actub, who is a mother of two young boys, first knocked down Lee with a left hook in the opening round.
Actub again landed a left-right hook followed by a straight on the chin to score another a knockdown in the second canto.
In the third round, Actub connected two solid punches on the head to force the referee to finally put a stop on the fight.
It was only Actub’s third assignment in abroad.
“I’m really very happy that finally I won in my only second championship,” said Actub (4-8-1, 3 KOs).
“I was not expecting to win and I really thanked God and my supporters and my veteran trainer Ronado Rosales,” said Actub.
Actub also thanked international matchmaker-promoter-manager Brico Santig of Highland Promotions for giving her the chance to fight.
“He (Santig) is my business manager. His effort did not go to waste as I really strived hard to get the belt,” she added.
Actub had her first international fight when she fought but bowed to then unbeaten Japanese Ayumi Goto (5-0) last March 15 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan for the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation female super bantamweight title,
Actub again bowed to another Japanese Miyo Yoshida in her next foreign stint on May 14 at the Kgoshima Arena in Kaoshima, Japan.
Actub, however, came back strong in her third assignment outside the Philippines by stopping her Korean opponent via a 3rd round technical knockout.
Actub turned pro at the young age of 17 and suffered four straight loses including a TKO in her debut against Norj Guro on April 25, 2011 in Salug, Zamboanga del Norte.
She finally tasted her first win by a first round knockout against Jenalyn Villa on April 28, 2012 at her hometown at the MSU gym in Iligan City.
Actub, however, fell in love with a fellow boxer Jonel Gadapan, a former World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia Pacific lightweight title-holder and she got pregnant and eventually had their first baby boy in 2013.
But that did not stopped Actub from making a successful comeback in 2014 as she scored a unanimous decision over Joan Ambalong in Misamis Occidental. Actub again fought Ambalong on that same year which ended up in a draw.
Actub then suffered TKOs in her next two fights and later gave birth to her second baby boy in 2015. Actub then again bounced back with two straight wins via TKOs including against Ambalong in 2016.
Actub next went to Japan but lost in the OPBF female super bantamweight championship fight.
“I suffered a lot of trials in my life. But I’m grateful that I was able to survive them and now I am blessed with a victory,” said Actub, who is now separated from her husband.
She and her two children are now living with her father, a retired fireman, and together with Actub’s girlfriend.
