PINOY CHALLENGER BOWS TO IBO WORLD CHAMPION

FILIPINO challenger Ryan Rey “Pogi” Ponteras dropped a unanimous decision to undisputed International Boxing Organization (IBO) World super flyweight champion Gideon Buthelezi in their championship fight held July 28 at the International Convention Centre in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Buthelezi landed more telling blows against Ponteras in their 12-round title fight.
All three judges scored in favor of Buthelezi – Lulama Mtya (118-112) of South Africa, Eddie Pappoe (118-111) of Ghana and Patrick Mkondiwa (118-109) of Zimbabwe.
The 31-year old Buthelezi successfully made his third title defense to improve his record to 20 wins with four knockouts against five losses.
Ponteras, on the other hand, suffered his 12th defeat against 20 wins with nine knockouts and one draw. The 27-year old Ponteras, a native of Panabo City is currently the Philippine flyweight champion.
