TAGUM CITY – Filipino boxer Glenn “The Rock” Porras and Indonesian fighter Noldi Manakane both made their weights today (Nov. 24) for their much-awaited championship fight for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Bantamweight title tomorrow at the University of Mindanao Gym here.
Porras and Manakane both tipped the scales at identical 122 lbs. at the official weigh-in held at the Tagum Trade Center.
“We will bring home the title to Indonesia,” said Manakane’s second Hendrik Barongsay.
Barongsay said that “Manakane will try to knockout Porras”.
Porras, however, is very much prepared to beat Manakane according to his trainer Rene Inocian.
“Prepared kaayo si Porras ug ready me na pildihon ang Indonesian,” (Porras is very much prepared and ready to beat the Indonesian) said Inocian.
“This will be an acid test for Glenn. His opponent is a good boxer and a veteran as what I saw in the youtube,” said boxing promoter Engr. Jilson Basang of MB Northstar Promotions.
Manakane is a veteran of 56 fights with 32 wins and 18 knockouts. He is a former PABA bantamweight, Indonesia Boxing Association (IBA) featherweight, super bantamweight and super flyweight champion.
Porras (30W-6L-0D, 18 KOs), on the other hand, is a former interim WBO Asia Pacific Youth and Philippine bantamweight champion. He is now based in Panabo City under the MB Northstar Boxing Stable.
Porras previously captured the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation (MinProBA) super bantamweight title by stopping Dingdong Quinones in the first round only last Sept. 15 at the Panabo City Gym.
WBC ABCO supervisor Ralph Diokno of Manila will supervise the Porras-Manakane fight. Veteran referee Alberto Heramil of General Santos City will be third man on the ring while the judges are Mindanao Professional Ring Officials Association (MinPROA) president Brembot Dulalas, retired GAB Davao OIC Jaime Mata and international judge and boxing editor Lito delos Reyes.
Four separate title fights will also be featured in “The Redemption” boxing card promoted by RATIM Sports Promotion in coordination with the MB Northstar Promotions.

The two other championships will feature Michael Bravo against Lester Jun Pronco for the vacant PBF flyweight title and Jovanny Rota versus Alvin Makiling for the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (MinProBA) lightweight crown.
Pitted in the undercard are Ken Jordan vs. Jestine Tesoro (8 rds.-135 lbs.), Jaegar Bereno vs. Ramil Antaran (8 rds.-117 lbs.) and Rocky Sardido vs. Reymark Alicaba (4 rds.-108 lbs.).
“We are bringing back the professional boxing here in Tagum after more than a decade,” said promoter Raul Timogtimog.
It is held in coordination with the Tagum Circue of Shooters Inc. and Maco Golden Valley Eagles Club.
