PORRAS STOPS MANAKANE IN 1ST ROUND TO CLAIM WBC ABCO SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE

FILIPINO boxer Glenn “The Rock” Porras displayed his old fiery form by stopping former world title-contender Noldi Manakane of Indonesia in 2:36 of the first round to claim the vacant WBC Asia Boxing Council super bantamweight title last Saturday at the UM Gym in Tagum City.
Porras immediately went to work after the bell rang in the opening round by landing solid body shots on Manakane.
Manakane tried to counter with his own body shots but Porras’ punches proved to be more effective as the Indonoesian was pummeled to submission after absorbing a solid uppercut on the midsection.
“We were shocked because our game plan was supposedly to keep Porras at bay until the 3rd round before we will be going for the attack and knockout,” said Manakane’s second….
Porras’ victory proved that he is now back to his old fiery form that earned him his 31st win and 19th knockout against six losses while Manakane suffered his 23rd defeat and 11th knockout loss against 32 wins and 2 draws.
“Bumalik na ang dating Glenn Porras,” said his manager Engr. Jilson Basang of MB Northstar Promotions.
“Porras knocked out Manakane in just one round while WBA world bantamweight champion Koki Kameda only beat Manakane by a unanimous decision in Japan,” said Basang.
Porras is a native of M’ang, North Cotabato but is now based in Panabo City. He is a former interim WBO Asia Pacific Youth and Philippine bantamweight champion and now also currently the Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (MinProBA) super bantamweight champion.
The Porras-Manakane title fight was promoted by Raul Timogtimog of RATIM Sports Promotion and Basang.
It was supervised by Ralph Diokno while the referee was Alberto Heramil. The three judges were Brembot Dulalas, Jaime Mata and Lito delos Reyes.
