KIDAPAWAN CITY – Comebacking Glenn “The Promised Rock”Porras of M’lang, North Cotabato and his opponent Renante Suacasa of Koronadal City both made their weights today (Sept. 16) for their championship fight for the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (Minproba) bantamweight title tomorrow at the Municipal gym of Pres. Roxas in North Cotabato.
The 31-year old Porras, a former WBO Asia Pacific Youth bantamweight champion and former Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) bantamweight champion tipped the scales at 118 lbs. while Suacasa, a former Minproba champion, submitted 119 lbs.
Porras is determined to make a successful comeback by scoring a convincing win against Suacasa.
“He wants to make a big win to earn another title-crack,”said promoter Jilson Basang of MB Boxing Promotions.
Porras is now managed by the MB Boxing Promotions also owned by Singaporean Erwin Maderazo.
Suacasa, however, is also ready to fight and must need to win in preparation for a big boxing promotion in Koronadal City in December.
Suacasa travelled for three hours aboard a tricycle together with his wife, who also acts as his assistant trainer.
“Siya ang nagba-bandage sa akin kapag mag-praktis na ako,”said Suacasa, who lost his last three fights including a championship for the vacant PBF super flyweight title.
Suacasa last won against Raymond Dayham by a split decision last Sept. 27, 2015.
The co-main event will have hometown hero Arnold Garde (6-3-2) against Ian Ligutan (6-4-2) of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur fighting for the vacant Minproba light flyweight division.
Garden submitted 108 lbs. while Ligutan was 109 lbs.
The boxing event is supported by Prex. Roxas Mayor Jaime Mahimpit. It is sponsored by Nature’s Spring Water and Dawns Catering.
Pitted in the undercard are Joey Antonio against Jessie Boyles; Sonny Basanez vs. Hölly Quinones; Arnold Montales vs. Rogelio Boyles. – LITO DELOS REYES
