PROFESSIONAL boxing is coming back to Malaysia on July 9 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Center in Kuala Lumpur.
“This will be the first show (and) the beginning of many (shows) to come in Malaysia,” said boxing promoter Raymond Lew of the Malaysian Boxing Association (MBA) Boxing Management.
The historic event is supported by Boxranx, Coca-Cola, Isuzu, Muay Thai MMA, Monster, MalayMail, Ticket Pro, Johnson and Edamamedia.
The main event is the championship fight for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Silver featherweight title between Carlo “The Ferocious Magali of the Philippines and the undefeated Sandeep Balhara of India.
The 30-year old Magali (21-9-3, 10 KOs) is a former IBF Pan Pacific super featherweight title-holder. He won the vacant crown by knocking out David Browne Jr. (22-1-1) in Australia in 2015.
Magali also fought but lost in four other different title fights – WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver lightweight, WBA International lightweight, WBO Oriental featherweight and WBC International bantamweight.
Magali also settled to a majority draw with fellow Filipino Dennis Tuberon in their battle for the vacant WBC International featherweight crown in 2014 in Manila.
Magali previously won by a majority decisions over Michael Escobia last March 5 in Mandaluyong City.
Balhara, on the other hand, is still undefeated with four straight wins. The 28-year old Indian won all his last three fights all by knockouts.
He first stopped Naveen Panwar by a 3rd round technical knockout last April 1 then 21 days later he knocked out Mukul Saini in the 6th round.
Balhara immediately climbed back on the ring on May 21 to knockout Prince Kumar in the 3rd round at the Najafgarh Boxing Academy in New Delhi.
