The World Boxing Council has presented legendary Ruben “Puas” Olivares with a green sashed WBC medal for outstanding achievement and given him a standing ovation for his high impact fabled ring career.

Bantamweight and featherweight champion Ruben fought on 105 occasions, won eighty nine times with seventy nine KO’s!  Thirteen losses and three draws,  in a remarkable twenty seven years career.

At his peak, an opponent had an appreciably better chance of winning the National Lottery Jackpot, than defeating Ruben!

The WBC Martes A Cafe Press Conference sat absolutely enthralled, during breakfast at Hotel Geneve, in the Zona Rosa, as a film of Ruben’s Greatest Hits was screened. Cuttlery activity ground to a halt, and a transfixed waiter spilled half a glass of orange juice on a reporter’s notebook, adding pithy authenticity.

Master of Ceremonies for this event and famous as well as respected Televisa Boxing Commentator Roberto Sosa,  aptly and succinctly summed up the breath taking film as: “Extraordinary!”

The creme de las creme of opponents: A thrilogy Vs Jesus “Chucho” Castillo, Lionel Rose, Bobby Chacon, Rafael Herrera, Alexis Arguello!

Embracing Ruben, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman said: “It is a pleasure, an honor and a new road in the name of Puas, with pride and passion.”

Mauricio praised the happiness, energy and charisma of Ruben, mentioning that as a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, he was one of the three most popular stars at Canastota, with the fans.

And almost like a returning prodigal, Ruben, flashing  that famous, winning toothy smile saying: “Thank you for the recognition and the love. Adalente!”
