Rafael “Borrego” Chávez, who was murdered last Sunday, will always be remembered by the boxing family as a former fighter who`s determination overcame addictions and who was dedicated to helping hundreds of people to defeat this terrible problem.

“Borrego” Chavez served as a state transit agent, in addition to training boxing along with his brother Rodolfo. Rafael, a well-known and famous boxer in Tijuana, Baja California, was the oldest of the “Chávez” boxing brothers: Roberto, Julio and Rodolfo.

Although the boxrec website only records 11 bouts, in fact Rafael actually fought more than 60 fights, sharing boxing cards with his brothers on many occasions.

After his retirement from the ring, due to injury, “Borrego” supported Julio César in all areas and aspects . Then he lived a dark moment in his life after falling into drugs addictions. Subsequently and thanks to his great will, he was able to rehabilitate, devoting himself fully to helping hundreds of young people fight against addictions.

“Borrego” Chavez, was 8 years clean of drugs and 7 years attending a rehabilitation center, which helped more than 250 people. Rafael lived with a very interesting philosophy: “Mistake is human, but wise to accept and correct it.”

May Rafael Chavez rest in peace.
