The planned December 14 rematch between WBO super middleweight titleholder Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Jesse Hart is headed to Corpus Christi, Bob Arum told ESPN, at the same arena where Ramirez beat Habib Ahmed in February of this year.

Ramirez (38-0, 25 KO) narrowly defeated Hart (25-1, 21 KO) in September 2017, and has defended his title twice this year, once against Ahmed and again in June against Roamer Alexis Angulo. Neither fight exactly moved the needle or came against a top contender, and with Top Rank’s ESPN deal, a rematch with Hart is probably the best we could have hoped for at this point.

Hart, a Philadelphia native and second generation fighter, came off the canvas in round two against Ramirez and made a real fight of it, performing very admirably in what was a big step up. Since then, he’s won three straight, all by stoppage, over Thomas Awimbono, Demond Nicholson, and Mike Gavronski.
