Rampage: I will be surprised if Chael Sonnen can take me down in this fight

Quinton Jackson’s first assignment for 2018 will be against Chael Sonnen at Bellator 192 on January 20th, to kick-off the promotion’s eight-man heavyweight tournament. And from the get-go, “Rampage” has not been too thrilled about being matched up with “another wrestler.”

During Bellator’s media day last Wednesday, the former UFC light heavyweight champion once again expressed his dismay about fighting wrestlers and wonders if it is being done on purpose by promoters.

“I’m sick of fighting all these damn wrestlers,” Rampage said (via MMA Fighting). “The promoters, they must love it, they must love watching me fight those stale-ass wrestling matches, they keep throwing wrestlers at me then why wouldn’t they throw strikers at me.”

Rampage may dislike the idea, but he says he will be ready for whatever Sonnen would be bringing to the table.

“I will be surprised if Chael can take me down in this fight,” Rampage said. “I’ve been concentrating a lot on wrestling and a lot on all different types of takedown defenses. So my takedowns is getting better as a result of it, you know?”

“I’ve always been a defensive wrestler, but when I go in there in the fights, I get so caught up in trying to knock people’s heads off that wrestling goes out the window when you’re throwing punches and kicks and stuff.”

Bellator 192 is slated to take place on January 20th at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
