World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas defends his crown for the first time against dangerous and able Ronny Rios in a highly anticipated bout at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, Saturday night.
Rey, who was crowned in February, after going all the way to Hull Ice Ring to defeat Yorkshireman Gavin McDonell in England, commented that the strategy to follow will be to work in the distance waiting for the moment to land with stunning intelligence.
Rios, 27, who has an impressive and wily record of 28 wins, 13 KO´s and just one defeat, is a former WBC silver featherweight monarch. And now he attempts to dip down in weight to invade the super bantamweight division, against a tall order champion.
The official weigh-in of card took place today and both of them passed it without problems.
Vargas registered 121.6 pounds, while Rios weighed 122 pounds.
