In a major revelation upset, Francisco “Paquito” Rojo derails the title aspirations of WBC number one lightweight contender Dante “Crazy” Jardon, in a head on collision resulting in three knock downs and a whistle stop halt in the sidings during round five.
In so doing “Paquito” becomes the new Lightweight Latino champion monarch, with this shocker stoppage, which came to pass in two minutes seven seconds of the fateful fifth. Quite a turn around, as after four rounds, two Judges saw Crazy winning 40-36, while the third had a 38-38 draw on his card.
In the fifth round the fighters engaged mid ring, to see who would be the best man. A cracking Rojo left cross felled Jardón, who got up late. Two more visits to the canvass, convinced Referee Celestino Castro that discretion was the better part of valour, with courageous Crazy still insisting he was good to go…but in vain.
“Paquito” Rojo arrived at this encounter with 19 wins, two losses and 12 knockouts, while Dante “Crazy” Jardón left it with 30 wins, six defeats and 23 KO´s.
