Undefeated wunderkind Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez, fulfilled his year and a half long ambition of winning the WBC super featherweight Youth world championship by overwhelming Argentina’s slender by wiry Hugo “Dinamita” Santillán, with the “Pampers” corner, wisely throwing in the white towel of defeat, to save their man from further fearsome hammering.
The record of the Rock of ages, now stands at 22 wins, 18 inside the limit and three draws, and he’s only still a tender 19 years of age.
From the initial bell, “Rocky” launched a sustained and attack, connecting with a sustained body and head attack on the taciturn fighter fro Santa Fe, Argentina, who tried to retaliate with long right hands, and a lot of clinching, to catch his breath and clear his head. This was not appreciated or tolerated by Referee Vic Drukulich, who halted the onslaught towards the end of round one, to deduct a point from Hugo.
Round two saw Rocky closing the distance, and connecting with eye watering left and right uppercuts, himself wincing from several clashes of heads. Yet it was Hugo’s nose which was bleeding profusely. In the third, Huge was moving rather than punching, in desperate survival mode, but still getting located, tagged and walloped. His corner had seen enough and the white towel of surrender yet sanity, fluttered over the ropes to land with a plop, almost at the Referee’s feet. As a brave fighter, Hugo wanted to continue, but he as being severely punished, especially to the head, so wiser heads prevailed. The one way traffic was halted at one minute and forty seven seconds. It also spared us the sight of Rocky’s awful long red socks!
