A seasoned warrior, Nogueira (23-8) will try to make it two in a row after a second round TKO win over Sam Alvey back in September 2018. Before the win, the 42-year-old suffered a knockout loss to Ryan Bader back in November 2016. In a career plagued with injuries, ‘Little Nog’ was never able to put together more than two wins in a row in his UFC career.
A prospect from Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, Spann (15-5) won his Emiliano Sordi on the show, with a guillotine choke, to earn a spot in the UFC. He followed the win up with an unanimous decision victory over Luis Henrique Oliveira in his Octagon debut back in September 2018. The 27-year-old’s last loss came in July 2017, when he was knocked out by Karl Roberson on the first season of the Dana White’s TV series.
Nogueira is expected to take on Spann at UFC 237, in Curitiba, Brazil, on May 11. Although no headliners were confirmed, a strawweight title fight between the champion, Rose Namajunas, and contender Jessica Andrade will take place at the event.
