The UFC 227 card taking place on August 4th continues to expand its fight card, as a women’s bantamweight fight between Bethe Correia and Irene Aldana is being targeted for the event.
Combate reported the potential matchup on Friday. Despite not fighting for almost a year, Correia is ranked at 10th in the official UFC rankings for women’s bantamweight, whilst Aldana is just below her in the number eleven spot.
Correia (10-3-1) hasn’t fought since June 2017, when she was knocked out by Holly Holm at UFC Singapore. In her last five fights, the 34-year-old has only picked up one win, which was a split decision over Jessica Eye at UFC 203. Prior to her most recent loss, Correia fought to a majority draw against Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 106.
Since joining the UFC in late 2016, the Mexican born Aldana (8-4) has fought three times, only picking up one win in the process. After suffering consecutive decision losses to Leslie Smith and Katlyn Chookagian, Aldana most recently picked up a unanimous decision win over Talita Bernardo in January.
UFC 227 will take place on August 4th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The card will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between current champion TJ Dilashaw, and former champion Cody Garbrandt.
