Ask and you shall receive. That might be what Donald Cerrone and Jorge Masvidal are thinking right now. Yesterday, Cerrone took to Twitter to ask for an opponent for a potential hometown fight in Denver on January 28th. Masvidal answered the call, and after a little back and forth, they agreed that they wanted to fight each other.
Just like that, the bout has been made.
Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting confirmed that the bout will be taking place on January 28th at UFC on Fox 23, and the UFC will be making it official soon.
Cerrone (32-7, 1 NC, 19-4 UFC) is coming off a huge head kick KO of Matt Brown at UFC 206. It was his fourth straight win since he moved to welterweight, and he’s 12-1 in his last 13 overall.
Masvidal (31-11, 8-4 UFC) defeated Jake Ellenberger by weird TKO earlier this month, and is 3-2 since his move back to the welterweight division overall.
Although the UFC hasn’t specified this year, the bout will likely serve as the co-main event of UFC on Fox 23. Valentina Shevchenko meets Julianna Pena in the main event.
