With no title fight on the horizon in the near future, it appears that Demian Maia has decided to take another fight. The welterweight contender will meet Jorge Masvidal at a UFC Fight Night show in Nashville, according to a report from Brazilian outlet Combate.
What’s even more interesting is that Combate also states that the bout will likely be the headliner for the evening. While it rightfully should be on top if it is indeed on the card, the problem is that the promotion had already named a headliner – Cub Swanson vs. Artem Lobov – for that show.
Maia (24-6, 18-6 UFC) is currently on a six-fight winning streak, win the last win coming via submission over Carlos Condit last August. He was thought to have earned a shot at the 170-pound title with that win, but the draw between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson at UFC 205 necessitated a rematch, which will happen next weekend at UFC 209.
Masvidal (32-11, 9-4 UFC) is coming off the biggest win of his career, a second-round TKO stoppage of Donald Cerrone last month in Denver. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak.
UFC Fight Night Nashville takes place on April 22nd in the Bridgestone Arena.
