Gokhan Saki encapsulated the MMA world’s attention when he signed with the UFC back in May 2017. Being sidelined with an injury since December of last year, it seems the accomplished kickboxer could be set for a return to the octagon this July.
Fox Sports Netherlands (per Marcell Dorff of MMA DNA) reported on Wednesday that Saki will be fighting at UFC 226. His opponent has not yet been announced.
After losing his MMA debut way back in 2004, Saki (1-1) made his UFC debut in September 2017 against Henrique da Silva. The 34-year-old knocked out da Silva at the end of the first round, a finish that earned him a $50,000 performance bonus. Saki was then expected to face Khalil Rountree at UFC 219, but Saki pulled out of the fight in late November after suffering a knee injury.
UFC 226 takes place on July 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the main event, Stipe Miocic will aim to defend his UFC heavyweight belt against current UFC light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier.
